Today we travelled 6 miles, did 1 lock and 3 tunnels!
The first tunnel, Preston Brook, took approximately 15 minutes to go through. You are permitted to enter the tunnel from half past the hour to twenty to the hour. The other side has the opposite time frame.
The tunnel seemed to go on for ages and was both exciting and scary. Paul did an amazing job guiding Daisy through and we never touched the sides.
The second tunnel had similar time restrictions and although was shorter in length, it was crooked and twisty and, again, Paul skillfully navigated us through, never touching the sides. Pictures below of the first two tunnels and our journey to them (see further below for the third tunnel).

The third tunnel had no such time restrictions as you can see the other side, although only a sliver.
Paul entered the third tunnel and duly sounded the horn. To our horror, a returning horn sound came back to us. I panicked shouting ‘reverse’ and Paul skillfully reversed out and brought Daisy to the side whilst the boat came out which you can see below.

Feeling brave, I thought that I should have a go at getting us through, especially as the boat coming out confirmed there was no one behind them.
With hindsight, I should have (a) left it to Paul (b) put my glasses on and (c) gone in on a straighter angle. Sadly, we crashed ๐
Paul managed to capture the crash on the video below. If you don’t want to hear the f word then please turn the volume down before playing!
As you can see from the below picture, Daisy was scraped back to bare metal. My afternoon was spent sanding and priming ready to paint tomorrow.
Needless to say, I won’t be tunneling again!
