Also known as the Cathedral of the Canals is a giant three-storey-high iron edifice on the banks of the River Weaver Navigation and is one of the seven wonders of the waterways.
The lift takes boats from the River Weaver and then lifts them 50ft in the air onto the Trent & Mersey canal.
As we were coming off the Trent & Mersey canal, we went down first and then back up later in the afternoon, after we had checked out the visitor centre.
The lift was originally built in 1875 and really is a clever piece of mechanical engineering.
It goes very slowly and feels very safe and the operators are all very lovely and so there was nothing to fear.
We’ve put some pictures on the gallery page and some videos below for you to enjoy.
Love, Jo & Paul xx
