Cruising the Coventry

Wow, wow, wow, the Coventry canal has been absolutely beautiful, and of course the weather has been fantastic. We also saw Uncle Albert!

Along the way we have also seen herons, a water vole, blackberries starting to come out and some unusual boat yards. At places the reeds in the canal made it a single lane and there have been many many twists, turns and bridges. Daisy has a few more scrapes but we are much more chill about it now.

We have learned that the 8-8 engine rule only applies when you are stationary – for example if you are running the engine for hot water. Some boats get moving before 7am and so our starts have been getting earlier. At some point we plan to do a dawn cruise so we can hopefully glimpse some nocturnal wildlife and see the sun come up.

Today we left the Coventry and have joined the Oxford for a short spell, which will take us into Braunston, where we will take a break until Monday. Paul and Zak will have some bonding time whilst I join Katie and Ryan at the Vegan Camp Out.

To get on to the Oxford from the Coventry canal, we (well Paul) had to traverse Hawksbury Junction, which he did exceptionally well. I have captured this on video below.

The Oxford is proving to be as equally delightful and Paul even got a big wave and a horn blast from a passing train driver which was fun. Sadly I missed it as I was inside baking some blueberry (thanks Julie for these from your allotment) and lemon cakes.

For all our map enthusiasts, Paul has done an updated plan for you all to see and we will be in touch again soon.

Much love, Jo & Paul xx

Robbo, love the bit to camera, let’s have more of it. 30 years as a Cop and who knew you should be in media all along. 😂
Hope you have a great trip down south and let’s meet up somewhere nice.

Excellent manoeuvres Incy. You make it look easy. I’m sure there’s a joke somewhere about being used to handling long objects haha boom boom.

I know Braunston very well, it was our local village via the canal when we lived outside Daventry (almost on top of the tunnel you are going through). It’s very pretty around that area so Zac & Paul will find ample nice mini walks. Can’t wait for the update on your festival Jo!
Nice bit of boat turning Mr R.
